It is always a good idea, when best time to visit delhi, to thoroughly research it. After all, it is a survival exercise. This is especially important for those who do not speak the local language. People who want to profit from you will always use your inability to provide any details about where you are.

These are some tips for those who visit the city for the first-time:

Safety:

It is important that you do not give any of your original documents or information to anyone except the government, police, or immigration officials.

All your important papers and valuables (such as passports and jewelery) should be kept safe in your hotel room’s safe deposit box. These items should never be left unattended in your hotel room.

Planning ahead is a smart idea when you visit Delhi. This will help you plan for your stay and tourist in Delhi. Do not listen to any taxi driver regarding your Delhi stay/tour. Only follow the instructions of Delhi Tourism officers or other government-recognized information centers like Delhi Tourism.

Traveling:

When you are moving around the city at night, it is best to travel with a group. Pre-paid taxis are best for those who travel alone at night. They are managed and governed by the Delhi Traffic Police. Pre-paid services require you to pay in advance for the fare depending on how far you are traveling and the luggage you have.

Be sure to keep your baggage and other belongings safe at all times, including at airports, railway stations and bus terminals.

You can travel around the city by taking the metro or an autorickshaw. This is the cheapest and most convenient way. Although buses reach almost every corner of the city, if you don’t know the language or roads, traveling by bus is not the best option. Be aware of pick pockets when you travel or walk in crowds. Don’t keep any cash or your wallet in your back pockets.

Traffic is generally very congested. Taxis and auto drivers will quote ten times the normal fare to tourists. Before you set off, do some research about the current fares for public transport. If you feel that you are being unfairly charged, contact the nearest traffic officer immediately.

Tourist guides:

Many touts are found in Delhi. Be careful not to fall for their traps. They can pose as guides, friendly residents, or even police officers. It can be confusing to plan your travel from Delhi. You can find many fake tourist info places that claim to be Government Approved. Instead, make sure you go to a licensed Government Approved Tour Operator. Do your research and don’t rely on taxi drivers or auto drivers to get you to the right place.

Money:

Don’t carry more than you actually need. Instead, carry only credit cards and a small amount of cash. Your wallet should be kept in your jacket pocket or side pocket. Never in your rear pocket. All major banks have ATMs at various locations in Delhi. It is much better to carry plastic money than cash. Make sure that you only exchange money with registered money changers.

Climate:

Extreme climate is a characteristic of Delhi. It can be very hot in summer and very cold during winter. Visit Delhi between February-March and September-Nov to enjoy the best weather. You will experience extreme heat or very cold weather if you visit in another month.
